OYC Safety & Environmental Awareness Day

Done with taxes? Ready for Opening Day? Make this another season of safe and clean boating!

Stop by the OYC Clubhouse between 1000-1300 on Saturday April 21, 2018 and pick up some products, ideas, and services that will help prepare you and your boat for a safe and successful summer boating season.
  1. Replace Outdated Flares and signaling devices to comply with USCG regulations and pick up some environmentally-friendly cleaning materials at the WEST MARINE table.
  2. You may also safely dispose of old, outdated flares by dropping them off in the clubhouse for disposal.
  3. Get your Fire Extinguishers Certified and refilled (if need be) by AMERISAFE for another season of protection.
  4. Pick up some Free Bilge Pads--to keep your engine compartment spotless.
  5. Got everything covered? Get a courtesy BOAT SAFETY INSPECTION by a US Power Squadron member to make sure you comply with applicable boating regulations. Three inspectors will be available on Saturday (sign up sheet in the clubhouse), or you may schedule an inspection later at your convenience. When you pass, you will be awarded a useful Decal which may help if you’re lucky enough to be boarded by the Coast Guard this season.
  6. Sit in on one of the mini-workshops with demonstrations of knot-tyingVHF radio practice, and deciphering tide tables.
  7. Representatives of the SOUTH SOUND ESTUARIUM and the DEPARTMENT of HEALTH Shellfish Division will be on hand to answer all your critter questions (and help you ensure they’re safe to eat).
Not to mention coffee and cookies to help fuel you through all of these preparations!
STOP IN and BE PREPARED!

Moorage Inspections for 2018

Since 2018 is an even year all OYC moorage (boat house and open slips) with even numbers will be inspected this year within the months of May, June and July. Inspection check lists for both boat house and open slips will be posted on the OYC Web site for all members to review and understand what is being checked by the inspection teams. Most items are related to safety of the marina overall; no boat's interior is inspected, however the exterior is checked to include current state registration, electrical connection, OYC Burgee flown and the general appearance of the vessel's exterior. For boat houses the standards are listed in the Member Directory; an additional item is to have numbers on both the front and rear of the boat house. Our caretaker has plaques with numbers attached for each boat house to be attached to the starboard side of the water entry door about three foot +/- above the water level. This is a requirement for all boat houses both odd and even numbers.

In April or early May each member with even numbered moorage in the OYC marina will be contacted by an inspection team to schedule your inspection time. An inspection takes roughly 30 minutes to complete; you will get an email copy of your inspection soon thereafter. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping OYC's marina safe and secure.

Note: Inspection checklists are available in the left column under OYC Download Files.
