COMMODORE Gary Nelson & First Mate Colleen
Welcome to the Olympia Yacht Club Web site.
The Olympia Yacht Club was founded in 1904 and as we approach our 104th year, we will face new challenges. There are possible changes that could affect the basin where OYC has been located for close to a century. As members, we will need to pull together for the good of our club.
The important point to remember is; we are a club for the betterment of boating in the Puget Sound. We offer friendship, camaraderie, and the best yacht club value in the South Puget Sound. OYC has an outstation that is the envy of many other Yacht Clubs and is located just 16 miles from the OYC basin. We cruise all year long and have several members who cruise as far north as Alaska yearly.
Olympia Yacht Club has sailors who participate in the Puget Sound sailboat racing programs and have open water racing experience. Our Rear Commodore, Bob Connolly, has been in 13 consecutive Swiftsure Sailboat races. Vice Commodore, Tony Re, has historical links to the original America’s Cup Sailboats.
Colleen and I are honored that the members of OYC have elected us as your Commodore and First Mate. All of the leadership of OYC are volunteers and freely give their time for the betterment of the club. We look forward to a fun an entertaining year representing Olympia Yacht Club.
