Message from the Commodore

Commodore Bob Connolly and First Mate Beth

PANDORA

“Smile at those that you pass and speak kindly to all that say hello.”

We have a great Club, the best in the Sound, and it’s because of You the members.  My hat is off to one and all, thank you.  Thanks to those who build docks and keep us afloat, thanks to those who plant flowers that greet us along the entry to our great adventures of yachting.  We are a club made up of all types with a common interest…….we like having fun on the water.

Our purpose as a club “is to encourage and promote yachting, the science of seamanship and navigation, and to provide and maintain suitable facilities for the use and recreation of its members.”   This purpose is met every day by the members of OYC; it is participating in the Wooden Boat festival, being an active committee member, helping out with Foofaraw, teaching kids to sail and maintaining the clubhouse.   It’s parading your boat, being at the blessing of the fleet on South Sound Opening Day, it’s being with friends old and new on cruises and visiting other yacht clubs, attending the Daffodil festivities in Tacoma and participating in Seattle’s Opening Day Boat Parade.  OYC is represented on many sailboat races throughout the Sound and beyond, and we even have members sailing the ocean blue.  This is what we are all about!

The club has a full calendar of events including cruises, BBQ’s and balls.  There are also Board, Bridge and Dinner Meetings to which all are welcome.  Many thanks go to the present and past members who have helped to organize these activities.  I am proud to be OYC’s Commodore and I invite each and every one of you to participate!  You will find, as many members have, that the more you are involved in the Club the more you will enrich yourself and others.

Thank you!

Commodore Bob Connolly
